After a school collapse
Photojournalist Shiho Fukada captured families and communities after the 2008 earthquake in China. Today, I thought of his photo (number 9 in the series) when I saw a picture from Japan of nuclear plant officials bowing and asking forgiveness from survivors. What made the China earthquake's aftermath so piercing was that many parents, per government policy, only had one child. Due to governmental corruption, many poorly built schools collapsed in the quake, killing thousands of only children.
